iWellness Exam
Instead of using drops to dilate the pupils, patients have the option to use the Optomap, a device that takes an instant 200° picture of the retina, and the OCT, and instrument that looks at a cross section of the retina down to the tissue layer. Not only is the iWellness exam quicker and more convenient than traditional dilation, it also allows Dr. Schachter to compare one retinal exam from the next and better diagnose retinal thinning and tears.
Wavefront Refraction
Using the Z-View® Aberrometer, we are able to take an instant optical fingerprint, highlighting aberrations in the eye. Certain aberrations can be the reason for problems such as glare and low contrast. These problems can be especially dangerous when driving at night. Looking at the optical fingerprint, we can determine if you are a good candidate for Izon lenses, which use wavefront technology to help reduce glare and give you clear vision.
Dry Eye Center of the Central Coast
Did you know that more than 22 million people suffer from dry eyes?
Common symptoms of dry eye include burning, stinging, itchiness, light sensitivity, grittiness, scratchiness, redness, and blurred vision. The exact causes of dry eyes are as individual as you are, and Dr. Schachter is on the forefront of diagnostic research and treatment.
TearLab®
Millions suffer from Dry Eye Disease, and yet the vast majority are not receiving the care they need. We’re equipped with the TearLab® dry eye diagnosis system. The most advanced technology to diagnose and manage this irritating condition. We’re an Accredited Dry Eye Center, certified as a tear testing laboratory. We’ll test your tears and provide treatment options based on the results. You’ll be cared for by certified specialists.
Microscopic Evaluation
Most recently, it has been discovered that the infestation of Demodex, or ocular mites, is an often-overlooked cause for inflammation of the eye. Dr. Schachter is able to take a lash sample and get a microscopic view of these mites to correctly diagnose his patients.
Check out this video: Looking microscopically at a Demodex mite taken from a lash sample in the office.
Genetic Testing for Age Related Macular Degeneration
Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of severe vision loss in people over the age of 50. Early diagnosis and determination of risk is critical as up to 80% of people don't visit their eyecare professional until its too late to protect the sight in the affected eye. Dr. Schachter is equipped with Macula Risk, a prognostic DNA test that identifies those most likely to progress to advanced AMD and vision loss. With this information, a disease management strategy can be implemented.
Glaucoma Special Testing
Dr. Schachter is glaucoma certified and has state of the art technology to successfully detect and monitor this eye disease. We have the ability to take detailed pictures and video of the optic nerve which helps Dr. Schachter monitor the overall health of the eye to determine when treatment is necessary.
Introducing the Diopsys® NOVA-VEP Vision Testing System:
This new vision testing system helps eye care professionals detect vision deficits, including glaucoma and other neuro-visual disorders. It allows Dr. Schachter to objectively assess vision disorders earlier than traditional vision tests because it uses Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) technology to record the electrical response of a patient’s entire vision system and provides easy-to-read reports that give the doctor a simple way to evaluate optic nerve function. Dr. Schachter is able to compare tests over time to track disease progression.
